Lao and Thai Cooking in Garden Grove

Vientiane serves Lao and Thai food from a small dining room at 10262 Westminster Avenue in Garden Grove. It has been on Westminster Avenue for years, through a change of owners, and regulars say the cooking held up.

What to Order

Papaya salad is the dish to start with, and jungle style is the version reviewers keep ordering. The salad list also covers larb with minced beef or chicken, crispy rice salad, Thai spicy grilled beef salad and raw shrimp in a lime and chili dressing.

The noodle soups include Lao curry noodle soup (khao poon), chicken rice noodle soup and Lao pho, and the hot pots include tom yum with seafood. Pad thai, pad see ew and drunken noodles cover the stir-fried side, and the fried rice includes pineapple and crispy versions. Portions are generous, and larger groups can call ahead for catering trays.

Before You Go

Vientiane is open from 11 AM to 7:30 PM and closed on Wednesdays. Weekend waits can run long, and the parking lot is tight.
